Rean Schwarzer is one of the students chosen as a member of an experimental class dubbed "Class VII" in Thors Military Academy and the protagonist of the series in "Erebonia Arc" (Trails of Cold Steel series). Rean came from a family of lesser noble hailing from the Northern Territory of the Empire, Ymir.

~!Although a noble in name, Rean is actually an adopted son of the Schwarzer Family and due to this fact, he felt that he is unfit to become the next lord of Ymir, even though he is technically the only son of House Schwarzer.!~

~!He became the Ashen Chevalier by forming a contract with the Fragments of Great Power, obtaining control over Divine Knight Valimar at the end of the first Cold Steel game.!~

After finishing his education in Thors Military Academy, he later became the Martial Arts Instructor and Panzer Soldats Instructor at the Branch Campus of Thors Miltary Academy.
