The Brown Beast's effectiveness, cruelty and sadism in his persecution of dissidents and spies were legendary even by Stasi standards, leading to his prominence within the organization. Axmann's endless pursuit of power and security for himself and the Stasi influenced the significance of the Stasi Armed TSF Force, and the widening of networks of intel and blackmail spanning across Europe, making him hundreds of enemies both outside and inside the Stasi.
