Haniwa

The haniwa in *Gunma-chan* form a sort of tribe. In their society, they hold concerts, sporting events, boat races (featuring gambling, somewhat controversially)… They even teach Gunma-chan about the concept of democracy.

As of 2020, 45% (19 out of 42) of all haniwa designated by the Japanese government as a National Treasure or Important Cultural Property were excavated in Gunma, making them an important icon for the prefecture.
