Alfred Strachwitz
Nationality: East German
Affiliation: Nationale Volksarmee (1st Tank Corps)
Rank: Major General, Lieutenant General
Alfred Strachwitz is a highly regarded General in the NVA. Alfred and Jürgen clash over the future of East Germany's fight against the BETA, with him believing a ground force is best, while Jürgen believed an TSF-based doctrine was best. While the outcome of their clash could ultimately mean life or death for Europe, the two became very close allies and somewhat of a mentor to the young Jürgen.
Alfred is also a father to a 4 year old daughter Ursula Strachwitz, named after Saint Ursula. Alfred never misses an opportunity to show off photos of her or talk about her latest escapades. His wife and her mother Ernestine 'Tini' Strachwitz died during childbirth.
Alfred was highly regarded in the field, and was praised by the Soviets for his job as commander of the 9th Tank Division during the Prague Spring. Strachwitz later moved to the General Staff and became a key figure in the modification of the East German army's doctrine. With the 1st Tank Corps now in the BETA war, he had success in Ukraine raising his status as a hero.
Schwarzesmarken 1983 spoilers:
!~Alfred was also one of the key critics of his government, and his charisma, influence and great publicity posed a danger that the Stasi could not ignore. The general and his whole family, save for Ursula, were wiped out in the Moonlit Night purges and the name Strachwitz was struck from state records and proscribed.~!
